workouts back pain family chiroIf you struggle with back pain on a regular basis, you need to avoid exercises that would worsen the problem and cause you more pain. Some exercises can be used as a tool to relieve back pain and bring back some flexibility into your muscles. However, there are some workouts you should avoid without question. Our experts at Family Chiropractic & Wellness have come up with this list.

  • Sit Ups- If you’ve performed a sit up, you know what kind of strain it can place on your back. Sit ups are supposed to strengthen the abdominal muscles and the core, but most people use their hips to perform the exercise. That places considerable pressure on the disks of the spine. If you have back pain, any chiropractor would suggest that you avoid this exercise.
  • Back Squats- This is often considered a great exercise to strengthen the entire lower body, including the core. Unfortunately, this is another exercise that most people don’t perform correctly. Back squats can place pressure on the back and on the knees. If you bend your lower back instead of keeping it straight, you’ll place strain on your back muscles and your spine and that would lead to pain.
  • Jogging – Jogging on a hard surface can be very bad for your back. The impact of your feet on the hard ground will travel up your body, straining your knees, your hips, and your back. That can cause considerable back pain and other problems.
  • Burpees – Burpees are another from of high-impact exercises that can make your back pain worse. The high impact of jumping and doing pushups can do serious damage to your lower back as well as your knees.

You should avoid these exercises to keep back pain at bay. If you have any questions or want to know about our chiropractic treatments in Columbus, Indiana, you can fill in this contact us form.
