family chiro 5 healthy back topsModern lifestyle isn’t really good for your back. Most people spent considerable amount of time sitting at their desk. They also forget to sit properly and offer their back the right amount of support. Lack of proper nutrition and exercise also leads to weakening of muscles that support your back and your body gets stressed and stiff

There are several ways in which you can keep your back healthy. We at Family Chiropractic & Wellness always recommend that our clients follow the tips listed below. If your back problems persist, you can always visit a chiropractor to resolve them.

1 – Exercise

The muscles of your back need to be strong and flexible and that can only happen if you exercise regularly. There are some workouts that are great for building back strength and keeping it flexible. These include walking, biking, swimming, etc. They encourage your back to work and the muscles to strengthen. These exercises would keep your back healthy.

2 – Posture

Whether you’re standing or sitting, your posture will affect your back. When you sit, you need to provide essential support to your lower back. You can do that by placing your feet flat on the ground and keeping your back straight. Your lower back would be better protected if your knees are positioned slightly higher than your hips. When you’re standing, shift weight from one foot to other regularly. You shouldn’t hunch your shoulders, which would force your back out of its natural posture.

3 – Take Breaks

If you have a job that requires you to sit for a long time, you need to take regular breaks and move about. Every 30 minute, make it a point to get off your chair and take a small walk around your desk. That would relieve the strain on your back.

4 – Lifting Weight

If your job or lifestyle requires you to lift weight regularly, you need to make sure that you do it properly. Always bend your hips and your knees when you’re crouching down to lift something. You should never use your back to lift weights. That would place considerable amount of strain on it. If you do get injured while lifting heavy things, you should contact a good chiropractor to help you.
